Libraries have been an important part of educational and information sector of any school. It is the intellectual nerve Centre of a school. The quality of a school is measured by the quality of her library. The success of any library primarily depends on proper management. As a result of poor management and incapacitation in the handling of confidential information about library staff, many libraries have experienced failure.
This research therefore, aimed at developing a digital library system, to look into how digital library is designed and implemented to ascertain whether it meet purpose of application to the library system as an alternative. The existing system was analytically and objectively analyzed and tested in the course of the implementation of the new system and hence the strengths and weakness were highlighted and a new system was designed.
As the number of documents in digital library increases, it becomes more and more difficult for users to store, manage the vast number of documents and locate requested relevant documents by users. For this reason, a Web based Digital Library System (DLS) was designed for this purpose. This helps to create unlimited quantity of digital information and make it accessible to the world at the same time. The system is designed to procure the institution research materials and then publish them to users in their remote areas. The design parameters are PHP and Database type: MYSQL. It is intended as an interactive and content management system. The content management system deals with data entry, validation and updating while the interactive system deals with system interaction with the users.
Libraries, the automated information management system and human computer interfaces are very important in this era of computers. Numerous study and functional efforts have exploded in digital libraries, and vast budgets for research and practice in digital libraries are being increased. The overall assessment of modern libraries would be linked to the transition of their content, as well as the evaluation of libraries throughout history. Digital Libraries allow for contact between individuals, human intelligence, organizations and technologies.
