COLLECTIVE BARGAINING AGREEMENT ON EMPLOYEE PERFORMANCE A STUDY OF IKEJA ELECTRIC DISTRIBUTION COMPANY

In service-oriented businesses, employees are a significant source of competitive advantage. Collective bargaining agreement is beneficial to an organization since it aids in the development of ties between employees and employers. The issue of terms and conditions of service, wages and salaries, and working conditions have been a major challenge and cause of low performance from employees in Nigerian Private and public sectors. The literature review in this research showed the theoretical reviews and other past studies done by other scholars who have written on it and it also showed the gaps which the study tried to bridge and suggested ways of overcoming those gaps. This study showed a conceptual framework that linked the independent (collective bargaining agreement) variable to the dependent variable (employee performance). This study, therefore, examined collective bargaining agreement and employee performance in Ikeja Electric Distribution Company. A descriptive survey research design was utilized for this study. The population of the study covered 2600 employees of Ikeja Electric Distribution Company. A multistage sampling method was utilized to select the respondents from IKEDC. A sample size of 347 respondents was determined through the Taro Yamane formula. Data collected will be analyzed using statistical packages for social sciences (SPSS) Version 23. Two main analytical methods will be applied in this study, namely, descriptive statistics and inferential statistics. The results revealed that collective bargaining agreement affects employee performance of Ikeja Electric Distribution Company. The productivity improved qualitatively as well as quantitatively. The culture of communication, and sharing information is a crucial factor for a good relationship between employers and employees at IKEDC. The success of an organization is mainly based on the relationship between employers and employees and IKEDC experience showed that the collective bargaining with the conclusion of a collective bargaining agreement played a crucial key role in the performance of its employees and thus the business success. This study recommended Ikeja Electric Distribution Company (IKEDC) should keep improving the social dialogue with its employees to increase their performance and improve its competitive advantage over the competitors in production. And also recommends that collective bargaining should be handled in a non-partisan manner. Fair representation of all sides at the negotiation table will foster trust and lessen the fear of victimization.
