This study explores the theme of quest for identity in two literary texts which are the Colour purple by Alice walker and Beloved by Toni Morrison. Both novels examine the complex journeys of African- American s as they navigate the oppressive systems of racism,sexism and trauma in their search for selfhood and empowerment. Through a comparative analysis of this texts, this
study examines the way in which the protagonist Celie and Sethe confronts and challenge societal expectations,grapple with their past and reclaim their identities.This research investigates the various strategies employed by the characters too
establish their sense of self. It explores the significance of personal relationships such as sisterhood and motherhood, in shaping their identities.By examining the themes of identity and self discovery in the colour purple and beloved this research aims to shed light on the experiences of marginalized individuals and the trans formative power of personal growth and resilience.
The findings of this study contributes a deeper understanding of the complexities of identity and the ways in which literature can serve as a platform for marginalized voices.Keywords: Identity ,Slavery, Racial-discrimination ,complexities, selfdiscovery
