This study on ‘Roles of Media in Creating Awareness of Divorce Prevalence in Lagos State’ looks
at how media in Nigeria depict and highlight divorce issues, focusing on their role in increasing
awareness. The objectives of the study are to examine the roles of media in creating awareness of
divorce prevalence in Lagos State, to identify factors contributing to the increasing divorce rates
in Lagos State, and to assess the impact of the high divorce rate in Lagos State. The study employs
a survey research method, using questionnaires distributed to media consumers in Lagos State. A
multi-stage sampling technique was adopted for selecting samples. The primary data was generated
through structured questionnaires using a Likert Scale, and the data were analyzed through
descriptive analysis. The findings indicate a limited role of the media in creating awareness of
divorce prevalence in Lagos State. Additionally, a significant difference was found between the
mean scores of male and female respondents on the role of media in this context. The study aims
to identify major narratives, frames, and arguments used by media organizations to discuss divorce in Nigeria, exploring the influence of socio-cultural, legal, and economic factors on media representations of divorce. The findings will contribute to understanding how the media shapes perceptions and understanding of divorce, and its broader societal impact in Lagos State.Keywords: divorce prevalence, media roles, awareness creation, Lagos State
