Attitude of Students Towards the Study of English Language in Mountain Top University - Dr. E. O. Senayon - Ibafo Languages 2019 - xi,; 53p. tables

This study examined the attitude of Students towards the study of English at Mountain Top University. This research examined the attitudes students have towards the study of English as a course in MTU and the factors learning the English language in a private university. The objectives are to identify the types of attitude that students in MTU have towards learning the English language, to determine the relationship between students' attitudes towards the study of English. A totsl of 60 students were randomly selected and the questionnaire was administered to the students to gather their responses in order to achieve correct and accurate data. The questionnaire was constructed to answer the research questions. Data collected were analyzed using the descriptive counts and percentages for the demographic information of the respondents and for the research questions.
The findings from the study showed that the majority of the students are confident in their communication skills in English. The students' attitude towards English as an official language influenced their attitude towards studying English in a private university. The findings from the study also give accurate data on the students' attitude towards English as a course and their English lecturers. This study discovered that the majority of the students have a positive attitude towards their performance in English language tests and work consciously to improve their skills in the language. A wide range of interesting and yet educational materials were introduced to aid the positive attitude of the students. The following recommendations have been made based on the findings of the study; the students should be engaged constantly in educational activities that will help them improve their level of proficiency in the English language and have confidence in the acquisition of the basic language skills they have. The students should be given alternative ways to learn English in an exciting manner. This research, therefore, gives data on the attitude of the students towards the English language as a course in a private university, Mountain Top University.
