EFFECT OF KETOGENIC DIET GENERATED KETONE BODIES ON FEMALE REPRODUCTIVE PROTEINS: AN IN-SILICO STUDY

A ketogenic diet is a diet that contains high fat, moderate protein and low carbohydrate in it. The extremely high fat content of the ketogenic diet forces the body to make and use ketones, which are created from the body's stored fat as a source of energy. The body creates three different kinds of ketones: acetoacetate, beta-hydroxybutyrate, and acetone. The purpose of this study is to be able to determine the interaction between some reproductive proteins and ketone bodies and to also determine the ligands with higher docking scores between the standard drugs and the ketone bodies. Software and webservers, molecular docking simulation, 2D/3D molecular interaction post docking was used for this study. Sequence retrieval, preparation and modelling, of three-dimensional structure of the target protein was also carried out in this study. The result of this study showed that there was no interaction between the standard drugs which are clomiphene citrate and letrozole with inhibin A and B but interaction of the standard drugs took place with other proteins. This brought about the activation and deactivation of the functionality of the female reproductive proteins. Interaction of the ketone bodies with the proteins of interest took place. This is due to the presence of the signs attached to the docking scores. There was better docking interaction between the standard drugs clomiphene citrate and letrozole and the proteins of interest in this study, compared to the ketone bodies interactions. However, the docking interaction exhibited by the ketone bodies is significant for its use as a drug target for further research on reproductive proteins modulations.
