The aim of the study was to determine the reason for twitter ban in Nigeria. It also examined the extent to which Twitter ban had impact on the freedom of expression of students of the Lagos State University. In line with the objectives of this research, the study made use of quantitative research design. Structured questionnaires were used to collect data from 379 respondents that were sampled conveniently. The data gathered were thereafter analysed, presented and interpreted using the descriptive data analysis technique; by presenting the data in tables, frequencies, percentages, and narratives. The findings of the study showed that the factors that led to the twitter ban or suspension was due to constant criticism of the government, then, government toxic relationship with the social media platform especially from the time of the #Endsars in the country since 2020. This study recommended that Users of the platform should be careful when using the platform, as the resuscitation of criticism on the platform of the government could attract future suspension of the platform and also the government should bridge the gap between the youth and themselves, this will facilitate smooth and effective communication.
