520 _aThe general objective of the study was to determine the effect of performance appraisal on employees’ productivity using a survey of Governmental Organizations in Port Harcourt, Nigeria as study location. The study was guided by the following specific objectives: To determine the effect of performance appraisal practices on employee productivity in Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), to determine the impact of Performance Appraisal feedback on employee productivity in Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and to investigate the influence of reward systems on employee productivity in Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC). The study adopted a descriptive research design. The population of interest consists of all employees of NDDC. A sample size of 114 was selected using stratified sampling method. Data was collected using structured questionnaires. The data was analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) into frequency distribution, percentages and Pearson correlations. The data was presented using tables. The study concludes that performance appraisal process on employee motivation established that the system is important for employee motivation. Different raters can increase the accuracy of performance evaluation (can reduce bias) and increase employee’s perceptions. The manager’s ability to address the skills gaps can have a significant impact on the employee’s motivation. The study recommends that the performance appraisal system is an important factor for employee productivity. Performance appraisal system helps improve employee job performance and productivity at work. Different raters can be used to increase the accuracy of performance evaluation and increase employee’s perceptions of fairness that can increase staff productivity.
